Hello,

I've got some stress with my engine las times. When the engine is hot, it's difficult to start and it tends to stop when i'm not running on high revolutions (or moving). When i'm on the road i can ride on normal speeds. And i have blue smokes...

I think i'll put off the cylinder head to see the state of the cylinder but before it does someone have an idea for me?

Well blue smoke is oil being burnt, if you have a compression tester do a test and then put a squirt of oil down each bore if ti makes a difference you will know the rings are worn at least if it doesnt make a difference its the valves, does the engine make any unusual noises at all.

And the engine doen't make any strange noise.

Does the engine start easily when it is cold and do you need full
choke then? When it is hot and keeps stalling is it better if you
pull out the choke.

Blue smoke is worn engine - but this trouble could just be simple things like points gap/plug gap/ignition timing/carb damper (any oil in there ?) and carb mixture setting. So check all these things first before - but start looking for another engine anyway ! A compression test will tell all - either buy a gauge (not a fortune) or get local garage to test it.

i've opened the engine and i was finally more stressed about the engine that it needed. After removing the rocker cover, i saw a missing screw on the rocker... No doubt the valve was released... I replaced a new one, changed the gaskets and everything is ok again.

I was back on the road two houres later!

One thing that would be of personal concern - where is the screw?

Well done! As for the loose rocker adjuster - erm sorry if it was my fault (although I can't remember if I had to reset them. I didn't put that many miles on the car so maybe not).

Anyway - I hope you checked and adjusted the rest whilst you were in there... ;-) (and also made sure that they were all tight)

Most rocker adjusters I've seen have both a screw and a locknut. I'm not sure I've seen any without a screw.

Quite possibly the hint of blue smoke is still there ;-) The engine has seen a lot of miles in its life - and it sounds like it's going to see some more

If a rocker 'screw' had come out - the push rod would very likely catch on something and get well mangled .

And a rocker adjusting screw can only come out in the direction of the pushrod which would be very unlikely, the "round" end will not pass through the rocker arm for it to fall out from above.

Good point 57 ! I really doubt that a loose rocker 'screw' (or nut) could cause the symptoms/problems that started this thread !

you're right, it wasn't a screw, it was a nut.
