Morris Minor, Swindon, Wiltshire

Hi, after many years I have plucked up the courage and purchased a lovely 1971 2 door Morris Minor. Its not perfect but seems solid and should be a great little ‘runaround’.

From an initial inspection it looks as if some repairs have been done to the front inner wheel arches and the bump stops are missing and it looks to me as though the repaired mountings are not correct.

Is there a member in the Swindon or surrounding area that would let me have a look at their moggie to take some measurements/photos so that I can check and fabricate any necessary repairs.

On my list of current jobs is to
- replace rear and side window rubbers and check for other possible leaks as the carpets are wet
- remove carpets dry the floor, check/repair any rust (initial inspection looks good
- remove outer sill plates and check/repair sills if needed ( initial inspection from inside car and underneath looks soild)

I’ve done a lot of youtube and internet searching over past few days and am amazed at how much information is out there. If a job needs doing someone has done it and shared there experience, hints, and, tips.

Wish me luck as I am sure the list will grow

Congratulations on your acquisition Paul and welcome to the world of Moggie ownership. It seems that your car has never been subjected to an MoT test - what's the story there? Is it a recent import?

Panky, thanks for the Pics. I intend to take the wing off in the near future, get the inner wing back down to metal to confirm how good/bad it is and then decide if it is a replacement panel or a patch job. 1st job on my list thiugb is to stop the water leaks inside the car to prevent rusting of the floor panel etc.

The piccies of the restoration work on the inner wings looks awesome. Quick question on dealing with surface rust. My intention is to clean panels, apply two coats of Neutrarust 661, then a couple of coats of primer, then stone chip( underside of floor inside wheel arches etc) then couple of coats of cellulose to match body colour. Also then thinking if using sonething like Waxoil or Languard. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a plan. If possible I use Bilt Hamber De-ox gel to remove any stubborn patches of rust - it dissolves the rust rather than convert it so no bits lurking where the converter didn't reach. Rust converter does have it's place and I have used it extensively in the past with good results, Aquasteel is my weapon of choice on that front. After epoxy primer and a coat of paint again I use Bilt Hamber products, I've found Dynax UC clear anti corrosion wax to be excellent on areas you don't want to cover in brown wax.
Your approach is basically the same but with different products so go for it - but I would recommend using an epxy primer rather than a celly based one.

That looks a very decent starting point. One of the last built too. I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of history. I don't think it has been imported. I had a Traveller in the 1970s which was a CMO ???J registration. It is an original Berkshire registration number and not a replacement. DVLA MOT history only goes back as far a 2006 I think, so it doesn't actually mean that the car has never had an MOT test
In case you don't know, the paint colour is Peat Brown. Have fun with it

Nice to see another Peat car.
When I bought mine, I thought that Peat was the worst choice of colour ever for a Minor.
Since then, I have gone off it.
