Clutch

We have a std 1098 cluch and flywheel, it's operated by a hydraulic concentrilc slave which works very well.

Problem is with a tuned engine it slips on enthusiastic engagement , the disk lining is hardly worn not sure of the provenance of the cover though . We are going to need to change the gearbox soon so need to sort this out, anyone any idea if a new std clutch will live with perhaps a 20% increase in torque?

If not what are the alternatives?

Before condemning the clutch have you checked to see if the slave cylinder is returning ‘off’ quickly? As you say it happens with ‘enthusiastic engagement’ (a racing start?) it may be due to lag in the hydraulic system. I believe the standard clutch and pressure plate are more than up to the job for a pepped up engine.

You could always uprate the springs , what colour are they , Yellow? uprate to Red.

I did wonder about that, I have several pressure plates i'll take a look and see If we can build a good one with red springs the slipping on pullaway continues until you back off the thottle so it's a bit more than transient, its also ridiculously light which might go back to the springs again.

Strangely the pattern one in my TR7 V8 does the same, but I know that is on the limit for a std clutch.
