Just a double check I've bought a 1275 and the oil filter is beside dizzy by back of block so from what I've read that's a marina. However when I looked up the block number it says mg? 12G, any ideas I'm told it was in a minor before so hoping the front and back plates are correct.

The 1275cc 'A' Series engine with the oil filter located to the rear of the distributer can be either Marina, Ital or Maestro.

Here is a 1275cc Maestro engine for sale and for comparison.

Note the block casting number just above the oil filter. The 1275cc MG engine block does not have that cast in block number
The 1275cc MG transverse engine can be made to fit but then it would be very much a mix and match engine and would need to be stripped to determine what parts have been used or modified.
A photo of the actual engine and the engine number would be beneficial in determining the engines origin.

Thank you for posting the photos.
The block is a Morris Marina 1275cc item.
The rear engine plate is a 1098cc item Pt No: 12G275.
The 1098cc rear engine plate has to be relieved around the rear main bearing cap and the oil pump cover hole modified when fitted to a 1275cc engine. A 1275cc oil pump cover has to be used.
Relieving the 1098cc rear engine plate especially the oil pump hole increases the risk of the plate cracking between the oil pump cover hole and the hole for the rear main housing. It is best to forget about relieving the 1098cc rear engine plate and use the correct 1275cc Midget/Sprite rear engine plate Pt No: AEG552.
The flywheel is a ESM modified 1098cc item.
The items listed are standard for the fitment of a 1275cc Marina engine into a Minor.
See photos below of the difference between the 1098cc and 1275cc rear engine plates. The 1098cc plate (bottom) is covered by the 1275cc plate. The larger oil pump cover (right) is the correct cover for use on a 1275cc engine as the 1275cc oil pump is differently orientated to the 1098cc oil pump.
