So, I know the answer to ‘what is the best car cover’ is basically ‘the one left in the pack, on the shelf, in the shop’. However, I have a bit of an issue.

My car is kept in a concrete sectional garage with a metal roof. The garage is good for keeping the car away from the elements generally, but the roof does get a bit condensationy and drippy in the winter…. But also in the summer the car gets covered in whatever foliage the local trees are dropping.

It would be nice to give the car a little protection both from the water and the annoyance of clearing leaves.

The garage doesn’t currently have power (the plan is to get it next year) so heaters/dehumidifiers are out of the questions. Plus, my OH might object the electricity bill

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

I originally bought a quality cover that was breathable fir my MGB .Not cheap but very good.Also we put damp boxes from the cheap ahops to take up some of the damp and start the car weekly with the heater warming the car.

I have a similar garage and bought a Carcoon to go inside.

It is a drive-in version so unzips at the end (and sides if necessary.)

Like you, No electricity so I mounted a small PV panel on the roof which charges a battery and powers the small fans in the carcoon. Dry and moisture free, albeit not cheap.

For my last saloon, which ended up living outside, I bought a three layer cover from Amazon. Cost £60. I never saw any condensation under it. If you don’t want to break the bank it’s worth considering. Also, if you can make your garage draughty without letting rain in it’ll help remove the moisture.

Could you run wires from end to end of the garage and hang a tarpaulin from them a bit like a ridge tent, would keep air flowing around the car allow you to drive in and out without removing the cover and keep the drips from the roof off.

I used to have a similar issue but on the newer garages the roofing sheets are concrete rather than asbestos, they drip lime solution which caused paint damage to the XJS I then had.
