Anyone recognise the green machine?

Post by rocco »

I stumbled across another project that actually looks in much better nick than my own.

It's not registered in Germany yet so I believe that it's recently been acquired by the current seller. He states that it needs some floor pan welding and that's all. Am very tempted to buy it, get it welded and use it while I continue to chip away at my original project.

Looks pretty good to me but does anyone recognise it without the number plates and if so, be willing to let me know some details?

It is pretty hard to "recognise" a car with no number plates. Why does it have no number plates though?? It must be registered somewhere. It is clearly a later model Minor 1000 saloon judging by the wiper layout and interior etc. The bright green colour is not an original colour although the seats (if original) suggest that the car would have been Almond Green originally. It looks to have been quite recently resprayed. Who knows what condition it is really in under the shiny paint!

It was a long shot I suppose. I didn't have the registration number when I posted but got it this afternoon. Last MOT was in 2011 so it's probably just been stored for a while. Does seem odd that it's got nice looking paint which might be recent but having had it done before the floor was welded.

It looks like it has had welding work previously, possibly before it was painted. The front drivers side flitch panel and dome have been repaired. Not a huge issue, it's a common rot area but maybe suggested the car was restored and painted before being used and taken off the road after 2011. The car looks pretty good but only so much you can tell from one photo.

Thanks chaps. I did get some more detailed photos of the car and I think it looks really good in general. Maybe the paint job is a bit sloppy but forgivable for what appears to be a home garage effort.

Sadly, the seller has health issues which prevent him from finishing the car.

I am trying to control the urge to buy up every affordable Minor advertised on the web and just get my own one finished. The temptation to get hold of one that needs minimal work means I'll spend less money and time. I do love a bargain you see.

The seller has sent you some good photos of areas which don't generally suffer much from serious rust:- The centre of the main crossmember, the rear section of the front chassis legs and the bulkhead :-?
Really, it all depends on how much the car is doesn't it

He wants 3 grand and if I didn't already have one and I lived a bit closer to him then I'd probably have bought it.
