Adjusting a 1098 gearbox -- is it possible?

Hi,
My 'professionally rebuilt' gearbox occasionally jumps out of third.
Is it possible to 'adjust' anything to stop this happening? Without having to pull the gearbox entirely apart to do so?
The gearbox is a standard 1098 unit.
Many thanks,
Mike.

You can check the detent springs by removing the side cover, also you can check the bushings in the remote but I think that's about it.

Check that the gearstick shroud, if fitted, is not tight as this has been known to put sufficient weight on the stick that allows selection but then under driving conditions can vibrate and jump out.
Check that the engine steady wire connected from the chassis to the rear of the engine is correctly adjusted. This wire controls longitudinal flexing under acceleration/deceleration. Excess movement can put force on the stick with possible jumping out.

Thanks for those two tips Pete. I'll check them out.
Best wishes,
Mike.
