Just a quick question re the compatabilty of the propshaft, with the splined/sliding gearbox end, not a flanged sliding coupling. Are the propshafts fitted to the 803cc A Series the same as those fitted to the later cars? i.e. 948cc and 1098cc. For example, would a propshaft from 803cc car fit a 1098cc with the later (ribbed) gearbox?

As I understand the early and the later ones are different construction as you seem to indicate, 'splined sliding gearbox end and flanged sliding coupling'. The workshop manual sections G and GG show these.
ESM and Moss show one fitting 803/948/1098.

Yes, I had checked ESM and a search for "propshaft" didn't reveal what selecting propshaft from the drop down menu does.
It appears that it's the same for, as you write, the 803cc, 948cc and 1098cc.

Just replaced my propshaft's U.J.s. I initially used "Made in Taiwan" examples as supplied by a Minor parts seller. Their sizing must be a bit suspect because once the circlips were fitted they were too tight. No copper hammer adjustments made any difference!
Fortunately I was able to buy two n.o.s. Hardy Spicer HS194 which are now fitted and perfect. I did compare the distances between the bearing cup end faces, using a vernier calliper, and there was a very small difference comparing both.
Not all aftermarket parts are copied/made correctly.

It winds me up some of this crap we are buying then trying to fit and finding the parts are no good costing time and money.

Yes, I bought a couple of top trunnion pin lockwashers recently and, strangely, only one of them would fit over the pin, so had to re-use one of the old ones. Fortunately a very cheap item but some crap stuff is more expensive for sure.
