Breather setup on a marina 1275 engine?

I have a Marina 1275 engine in my traveller but the breather pipe runs from the air filter to the breather on the front of the timing cover.

I have been told the better setup would be from the breather on the timing cover to a take up on the carb? - more vacuum.

My carb is the original 1098 unit and has not takeup :(

Am i going to have to replace the carb or can I drill and tap the inlet manifold and add a breather valve? Alternatively can I buy an inlet manifold with the take-up for the breather?

My current manifold is the original 1098 unit which has alredy had a feed for the brake servo added.

My 1275 Mini engine has the rocker cover breather connected to the inlet manifold via a 1/8" hole in the servo take off point. (I don't believe in servos !!) This completely eliminates nasty smells/fumes and makes the car much nicer to drive ! Also cuts down on oil leaks if the engine is under slight negative pressure all the time. Feeding oily fumes into the air filter just clogs it up. Your 1275 will run very much better if you get an MG Metro carb and alloy inlet manifold - the 1098 carb will be strangling it !!
