Have started the project. Have rebuilt the 1098 engine. Bored out, new pistons, crank reground, head converted to unleaded. Gearbox rebuilt new 1st and 3rd motion gears, bearings and uprated input shaft seal.
Seats and door cards refurbished.

Great stuff!

How long roughly did the engine rebuild take you in total hours?

Great work and looks superb but maybe fit the correct black rubber hose between rocker breather and carb rather than a piece of old garden hose. I suspect the garden hose will not tolerate the oily fumes.

[Sorry didn't clock the hours. Longest jobs are checking, cleaning and painting. Strip and rebuild are fairly quick. Taking your time is a virtue./quote]

Stripped and ready for cleaning. Diff to check for backlash, condition looks good. Seal areas marked but not grooved, passes fingernail test.

Whilst refurbing the rear axle and with regard to the hub bearing protrusion and as an addendum to post viewtopic.php?p=676973&hilit=Rear+bearing+hub#p676973 I have put together my experience.

The attached diagram is a simplified construction of the rear hub, bearing and seal assembly. It is not detailed nor to scale. The photo shows checking the bearing protrusion with the gasket in place.

When dismantling, the bearings were easily removed but the oil seal removal is a problem as the rear face cannot be accessed, it's in a blind hole. I have a lever type seal extractor but couldn't remove them with this as it just destroyed the seal. I had to drive a small sharp spike in under the rear face and lift the back face sufficiently for the lever extractor to grip.

To replace the seal I used a 46mm impact socket to drive them in, both were very tight.

The bearings were fitted using a hydraulic press but were easy to fit and fitted fully to the back housing land.

The bearing kits were from ESM.
