Looking at a couple of spare distributors yesterday, both from a Minor The small numbers neatly stamped on the body of each one were different, I should probably have noted them before posting but there you go. I think one ended with an ‘F’. I’d like to know the significance of these numbers ? Could they refer to the degrees stamped on the base of the distributor cam ? Which incidentally should be what ? It’s 15 degrees on the one in my van but I know there are various options. What determines the cam degrees ?

What determines the cam degrees ?
I would be guessing that it would be related to dwell.

The max cam advance/degrees is determined by the stop on the distributer plate.
How quickly it gets there is determined by the weight of the advance springs and the weight of the advance weights.
There were at least two cams fitted to the Minor distributer. The shape of the cam determined how quickly the points opened and for how long they were open for (dwell).
