I am refitting my refurbished distributor and the pipe for the oil pressure gauge goes right across the vacuum unit, making setting the timing a bit tricky. Ideally it should face backwards rather than forwards, or at least 90deg further round. Does anyone have any ideas how I can achieve this, other than pack it with some washers to move it to a different position when tightened?

Turn the distributer clamp by 180 degrees whilst leaving the distributer as it is.

You can ditch the oil pressure gauge take off and put the oil pressure switch back to factory spec.

Why does the clamp need turning 180deg? The standard fitting looks to be with the clamp bolt at the top

I fitted one to Ted the Traveller and it works fine, frees up space around the pressure switch too and gives a bit more room to turn the dizzy.

You wanted a solution to the problem of the distributer clamp fouling the oil pressure gauge adapter and I gave you a no cost option!
The clamp can be fitted with the bolt up or down it makes no difference to the fitment/security of the distributer.
The adapter will either need new copper washers (qty2) or you can anneal those that are already fitted.

Thanks but it was not the clamp that was causing the problem but the vacuum unit coming up against the pipe for the oil pressure gauge when rotating to set the timing. Sorry if I did not make it clear! The adaptor for the banjo fitting will solve it as the pipe will be moved away so the vacuum unit has more room to move.

You could always move the distributer drive round one tooth and then retime.

Thanks. I have now taken off the brass adaptor and fitted the oil pressure switch as originally fitted. I have ordered an adaptor to go on the banjo bolt to fit the pipe for the oil pressure gauge. The distributor now has at least 90deg of free movement so plenty of scope for timing. Thanks for your help!
