Have today started converting my wife's minor to disc brakes, after removing the m/cylinder it has been found to be u/s.looking on esm they sell a pattern mc but it says that it cannot be used with the remote reservoir, does anyone know the reason for this as it means my new reservoir will be redundant.
Can you still buy a Lockheed mc anywhere?

They do sell new Lockheed cylinders though, so it looks like another ton of cash.ha.

ESM do sell a Lockheed master cylinder according to their website.

Yes, I have just bought the esm (bull motive) one, got it on flea bay though same price but free post.

I suspect the pattern master cylinder rear plug has different threads which precludes the fitting of the remote reservoir feed pipe.
I also suspect that the filler plug has different threads to the original filler plug which again precludes the fitting of the non vented blanking plug. Both plugs need to be replaced when fitting the remote reservoir.

The pipe runs down from the reservoir to the chassis leg, along the chassis leg and then turns 180 degrees through a hole drilled in the chassis leg & back to the spigot on the rear cap/plug. See details in the link above. Make sure that you have a grommet around the hole so as to protect the feed pipe.

I had a fluid leak after fitting a remote reservoir with a new Lockhead cylinder. The fibre washer on the MC cap was too thin and the cap bottomed out before compressing the washer, allow fluid to spill out. The thicker washer from the original MC solved the problem.

Or use two fibre washers.

I agree with Phil on the differences but it still could be used. It would require replacing the rear plug with a plug to match your fitting and sealing the filler plug. The easiest way is to use copper pipe as I do on my remote reservoir kits.
