I'm looking for the nut that you undo to release the handbrake cable .... Looks lilke it may have had a patch welded over it ? I think it should be just below where the seatbelt has been bolted through.

Agreed, but has it been moved - what's that little nut about 5 o'clock to the seatbelt bolt? It looks very like a handbrake cable attachment. You should be able to see where the mounting is from underneath.

That little nut appears to be an Allen-head cap screw/bolt.

Ah ok - so it is under a patch then, thanks for the photo.
The little bolt you can see in my photo is the one you use to hold the seatbelt reinforcement plate in place.

Well - I found the 'nut' under all the sealent, see photo. There was a blob of weld on the end of the threaded section to stop it falling off - wobbled a lot though.
In the other photo are some other fixings I took off - what it the black oily thingy ?

The black oily thing is the fairlead seal for the handbrake cable which looks to be home made.
Whilst the link below shows the seal for a Mini the seal is the same and can be fitted to the Minor.

Most Minor suppliers do not appear to list the cable fairlead seal therefore you may have to obtain the seal from a classic Mini parts supplier. You will require qty 2 fairlead seals per vehicle and they should be fitted to the underside of the transmission tunnel.

If you can't get the correct seals, I've always had great success with bits of leather cut from old belts.

That is half of an original fairlead worn right through by the cable...
The original is like a waxed/greased cloth like an old flat firehose.

Sorry to be pedantic but I cannot see a worn fairlead in the pictures above. What I can see is a decrepit fairlead seal.
There should be no problem in obtaining a fairlead seal as they are readily available - see link above.
The handbrake fairlead is the same part number for both Classic Mini and Minor Pt No: ACA5522 so there is no reason that the Mini fairlead seal will not fit the Minor. The use of the Mini fairlead seal for the Morris Minor has been reported on this web site in the mechanical section several times previous to this thread.
Strangely Morris Minor parts list Pt No: AKD3541 does not appear to show or list a fairlead seal.

Yes half a fairlead 'seal'
A fairlead is a device to guide a line, rope or cable around an object, out of the way or to stop it from moving laterally
The Mini ones have a 'seal' usually being shorter and made of rubber compound...the minor ones are lubricated/greased and whilst providing a seal as well I think were originally to prevent cable wear so 'fairleads' could be the correct description but Fairlead Seal will do
Whilst looking for a replacement seal that old one can be turned 90 deg and used again..not perfect but will do as a temp fix...

Thanks for the info. There was a second half of it I think but I lost that in the stones underneath the car and couldn't find it.
I ordered the evilbay ones and they turned up super fast, photo attached, rubber as mentioned.
The new handbrakes cables are ones with grease points so will ensure they are all nicely lubed up and ready to use. Just got to sort the floor area where the holes go before I can go about refitting.

I wonder how many old cars still have these seals? I must look for mine next time I'm grovelling around underneath the car!
