I have read most threads on fuel going stale, and have now experienced it first hand. My minor has only been started a few times over the winter/spring so mainly on choke for most of the time, the other day I took it for 15 minute run and it ran lumpy and not as sweet as usual.

I assumed dirty plugs but then had a thought, possibly stale fuel...about 6 months since topping up, it was 1/4 full, so I drove to the garage and put 2 gallons of E5 in (9 litres for 17.25 of your finest British pounds! ouch!) after driving about 300-400yds it was if I flipped a switch, perfectly smooth normal running.

So unless going on a good long run, fill up little and often is going to be the plan.

Has anyone tried these additive solutions which are supposed to preserve 'freshness' of fuel.

I've used the Briggs and Stratton additive and it seems to work well. I've now moved on to Millers VSPe Power Plus which is great in my old Commers but not yet tried it in the Minor - soon though.

I used some Lucas Oil fuel preservative last winter. Seemed to work quite well.

I've switched to " Super " , from my calculations it's 5% dearer but works out 5% better mileage and no rough running so equates well in my books...

I concur with that on mileage. On the old petrol I was getting about 41mpg. With E5 I am getting about 43mpg
