my shocks leak!

they leaked when I got the car a year ago, they leaked on the bench when I took them off for cleaning. There was no fluid in two when I attempted to refill them! They were all taken apart, cleaned, painted, reassembled and reinstalled. They didn't leak for months and now they've started leaking again, well one front and one rear has anyway. The front one from the shaft oil seal and the rear one from the lower hex head.

are they all like this?

No. I would get some re-conditioned ones (I don't think they are available as 'brand-new').

Its called old car syndrome.
When you refurbished them did you fit new seals and sealing washers?

Must admit that a cursory search didn’t reveal a source of seals and washers.

Can you recommend a supplier please?

I thought that brand new ones were now available? Could be wrong though. You'd have to try around the specialists. I haven't always had good long-term experiences with reconditioned ones I have to say My last ones lasted only until the next MOT!

I've found the post and read it. From that he suggests that the leaking is not the seal itself but the wear ring on the shaft that the seal fits onto. He also concludes that without fixing the wear on the shaft the seal with be ineffective even if replaced. He doesn't mention where the compression washers are from either.
