Another question about clutch operation.

My '65 traveller is fitted with a 1275 Midget engine, standard 1098 Minor gearbox and Midget diaphragm clutch. The clutch plate/cover/thrust are all new and the mechanism has been replaced with new parts.

Clutch does works okay and operation is light. However, he take up appears to be quite abrupt, There is very little slip - it's either in or out.

Is this normal for the Minor? My last Minor had the old spring clutch and it was 50 years ago so I can't remember how it felt!

If you have the original mechanical clutch release mechanism operating the 1275cc diaphragm clutch the operation can be in or out and nothing in between.
The operation can be helped by increasing the length of the arm on the relay shaft. See diagram below

Thanks, Phil. I assume that this modification will further lighten the operation of the clutch.

Modifying the relay shaft as above will considerably lighten the operation of the clutch and make engagement of the clutch much more controllable.
The MG diaphragm clutch is way too strong for the standard Minor clutch linkage.
When you refit the relay shaft I would advise that you replace the chassis rubber bush with a well greased poly bush.

Thanks again, Phil.
I have modified the linkage as you suggested and am pleased with the improvement.
