Hi,

There is a fair amount of grease at the base of my steering column where it enters the floor. I didn't put it there but it's appeared somehow. Any ideas?

Maybe someone has overfilled the rack with grease and it’s found its way out. I can’t visualise the layout off hand but there could be an oil seal missing from the splined spindle that the column connects to.

The only seal that fits around the ex factory steering rack pinion input shaft is a felt seal that can easily be displaced.
To have grease coming out past the rack pinion shaft and felt requires the steering rack to be near filled with grease. Are you sure that the grease is grease and not thick solidified oil.
It is not unusual to have a oil stain around the hole (and carpet/felt) in the floor through which the pinion shaft passes.
