Negligence

Oh dear. I put my Moggy in for some work and while it was there asked for the oil filter to be converted to spin on along with an oil change.
Long story short: When I picked it up the back end was spewing blue oily smoke. A big cloud of the stuff from cold! I told them it had never done that before.
I was concerned as it was fine before I put it in. So I checked the dipstick. It had been over filled. I drained off three pints (of dirty oil!) to get it back to the maximum level.
Having drained it off its stopped the cloud of blue smoke on start up, but there’s still a little there and oil dripping out the exhaust into the ground. Which it never did before.
The garage have admitted their mistake, apologised and given me a small refund (in comparison to total job cost) to cover new oil and filter with a little to spare.
I am going to drain off the oil completely and put on another new filter. I have checked the plugs are not oily.
Is the oil burn situation likely to improve with a little use now, or is it more likely the oil seals will have been damaged? The car was driven about five miles (plus garage road test, possibly 2-3 miles) before the excess oil was drained.
I cannot believe what they have done and I’ll never return to the place! A place that supposedly specialises in classic cars and a-series engines!
