Which back? Is it from the back end of the sump or back endof the crank (into bellhousing)?

looks like from the back end of the crank.
what would it be if it was the back end of the sump

Back end of sump is quite common - normally needs a new cork piece (or prefferably a rubber piece) however the sump may need flattening out as it tends to distort around the bolts and the last pair of bolts have to clamp the gasket and the cork piece which is an 'slightly optimistic design'

The sump gasket kit will contain them - any sparess retailer will do them but may be worth to ask for rubber instead of cork (although with todays lack of quality the cork may be better

Sump gasket kit 1275 ital engine

Has anyone any idea where to get a sump gasket kit for a 1275 ital engine, I am having trouble getting it from local motor factor shops. The reason I need it is, quite a big oil leak from the back end of the engine. A change of sump gasket seems the easiest thing to change first to try to cure the problem.
If the leak is not coming from there is the back end of the crank to bellhousing the most likely, and how difficult is it to repair.
many thanks in advance

You could always try the Morris Minor specialists for Marina engine parts (there's a lot of Minors with Marina engines these days.)
If it's leaking from the back of the crank, then it's a bigger problem. There is no 'seal' unless you've got a modified Maestro 1275 engine (I'm ure you'd know if you had) , therefore the 'archimedes screw' type thingy isn't working properly. I've never had to fix one of these so best to get tips from someone who has - I wouldn't want to just guess...

More ITAL oil leaks!!!
You can get the sump gaskets easily enough on ebay!
My ital lump is leaking from the rear cork sump gasket (or that area) Having replaced the gasket twice and having beaten the back in to shape.
im 99.99% sure the problem on my engine is excess crankcase pressure. Make sure your breathers are clear and check for emuslion in the pipes etc. Try fitting a vented rocker cover cap?
I took the head off this morning, and it appears to have been blowing everywhere!! (The head on it wasnt flat) causing it to blow some compression down the oilways!!! anyhow im not too worried, its a good excuse to fit the big valved head i have ;)

I got my sump gasket set from ESM. It's supposed to fit an Ital but it's marked Midget [crosses fingers]. Don't know if it'll do the trick yet as I haven't got round to fitting it.
