Fuel Pump ( again ! )

A simple question , but could ' those who know ', please confirm ?

I want to install a SU pump on my other car ( Ford Prefect ) I'm fed up with the mechanical unit !

Is the wiring simply a live source ,to the terminal and the earth return is via the pump body ?

On the subject of a live , ignition controlled, contact place on the Lucas voltage regulator to supply power for the Su pump : where's the best place ? ( the Ford doesn't have a fuse unit ,as on Morris 1000 !)

Which could I use ? A1 A F D ?? Or any other ideas would be welcomed Thanks  Arfron

Arfon,

You could try those nice people at Burlen - they list Ford Prefect SU fuel pumps (that should make sure you have the correct unit - ie suck of blow!).

I'd suggest taking the power from the ignition switch - you only want the pump running with the ignition on. The Minor SU fuel pump actually has an earth wire from the body to a good earth (rather than relying on the body & mounting bolts).

I'm not sure of the last question - you don't need a regulated power supply for a fual pump - the only need for regulated power is for the fuel gauge (or other instruments that measure voltage).

You might put an in-line fuse in the fuel pump live wire.

And wire it through a 'secret' switch - makes a good anti-theft device.
