What's it worth?

I think it might be useful to have a 'what's it worth' section on the forum.
I have undersold parts in the past because I did not know how rare they were.
What do others think?

And I have spent a fortune (well okay my definition of a fortune is in the £80 range) on rare parts, only for months later to find the market suddenly have loads of them, and then they can be had on eBay at 1/4 the price I paid - sadly parts always go for what they're worth/people are willing to spend at the time whatever their actual value :(

Luck seems to play a part as well, a good example is how I ended up selling some rare car wheels (4 of them) for £5 the lot, after trying to sell them for most of a year. Everyone else was managing to sell the same wheels (usually in worse condition) in the £80-100+ range).

I like the idea of a 'What's it worth?' section but, at best, it could only ever be a 'guide price' area.

As you have identified, Chief, it's all to do with supply and demand. At any auction anywhere in the world, if 2 or 3 people really want a particular lot, the price paid is likely to go through the roof.

The value of anything is only what someone is prepared to pay at the time of its purchase. There's a traveller currently for sale at over £33,000 - yep, that's not a typo......but if anyone really wants it at that price and pays it, it doesn't mean that all travellers in the same or better condition, have a similar value.

Who could determine what something is worth ? There are too many variables.
