Board Features

For those who haven't noticed, there are a couple of new features:

When posting a new topic, you can use a topic icon from a selection in the editor; like the "information" to the left of this topic title.

For those who want them, you can use avatars. Top right, click the dropdown next to your name, User Control Panel - Avatar Settings. Choose from the gallery, upload your own, or use a gravatar. Unsuitable images will be removed!

Basic how-to-use: When viewing "New posts", click on the icon to the left of the topic to see the first unread post, or the topic title to see the whole topic.

Out of interest, since the Avatar size/upload limit can apparently be modified (ACP->General tab->Avatar settings) and since it's allowing an upload to the server, would it be possible to:

1) Upload a large avatar image.
2) Set the avatar.
3) Grab the url.
4) Set the url as a signature image.
5) Upload a smaller avatar.
6) Set the avatar with the small avatar, while retaining the link to the large avatar in the signature.

Don't know whether phpbb over-writes a users avatar at the folder level, but I thought that while if it worked it would mean a stickied tutorial for people to follow, but I figured it may save Admin manually uploading signature images for hosting like he'd mentioned previously :)

An interesting idea. The signature picture should not be too large anyway, so what size would you want to upload? Also need to check whether the second avatar would overwrite the first?

Sadly the avatar image url displays as text when wrapped with img tags, but in a way it worked - the second image showed as the avatar, the first image opened if clicked in the signature.

But it turned out to be in cache, so once you logged out, the url to the first image now pointed to the second so both the signature and avatar had the second image so it didn't work :)

Guess the only way to do it would be to edit the php to flipflop an url - url A and url B on upload, so first upload is A, do they have an avatar set? yes, set url B, then there's two urls to the one user.

Bet that would probably be a lot more trouble than it's worth though

Or two forum accounts :D

It's the tiny size that's giving me issues.
Maximum dimensions; width: 80 pixels, height: 80 pixels, file size: 6.00 KiB.

The other forum I frequent took me long enough to get an Avatar and that one is limited to :
Maximum dimensions; width: 150 pixels, height: 150 pixels, file size: 781.00 KiB.

I can't find a resize programme that will take an image to that small a Kb. 80x80 pixel is easy enough, but not the very low Kb.

:-? :-?

I am useless at all this but seem to have added a gravatar & signature pic!

Well I managed it.
Use a online programme (eg http://www.simpleimageresizer.com) to reduce the KB, then use a photo editor to reduce the Pixel size.
Doing it the opposite way around doesn't work.

@geoberni - is your avatar showing you broken down with the police closing off an entire area of main road for you? It's a tad difficult to see it fully at that size :D :P

Yep, that was us on the way down to Nuffield Place for the Anniversary Event, Sun Sep 23, 2018, set out early in the morning to get down there and conked out on the Rutland section of A1 about 07:15.....Road was very quiet.
Coppers were amused and thanked us for getting them out of going to a drunken street brawl that had broken out elsewhere.
