Gearbox split pin?

I was looking under my car today and I noticed there’s a split pin that just hangs out the bottom of the gearbox (smooth type ‘box) from a little hole, near the sump.
It doesn’t look right to me? Any words of advice?

Perfectly normal. It's a wiggle pin, keeps the hole clear of dirt so any oil leaks can be easily seen

The person I bought my Traveller from called it a 'Giggling Pin'.

More commonly referred to as a jiggle pin.
It keeps the drain hole in the clutch housing open. Also find them in engine thermostats to ensure air can escape when refilling the system.
