Flashing

Odd problem. Wonder if I can pick the collective brains?

All indicators working just fine, except when the lights are on when the rear r/h stays on but won't flash - all the others working fine.

I initially thought it would be a relay problem and so replaced the DB10. Same problem still there with new relay. All connections fine, except mine are starting to work loose.

Should it help, this is a 1963 model.

In anticipation, many thanks

Check the earth connections for that light unit, disconnect and clean them up whilst your at it, with a small wire brush and / or sandpaper.
Put it all back together, do it up tight and try again.
Then let us all know.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Edit:: Ignore the below. This is a model where the brake lights are used for flashers too isn't it? Do the brake lights come on normally when pressed?

Code: Select all

The right front indicator flashes but the right back one doesn't? I don't understand this. Shouldn't the front and rear indicators of the same side be connected?

Ok on looking at the diagram, it's looking like the only source of constant supply (without brakes pressed) is from the indicator switch itself (and not via relay switching). But this would not explain why the front isn't steady unless the brake lights also weren't working properly.

So to be clear, the both rear lights come on normally when the brake is pushed?

Also none of the front indicators come on with the brakes?

Confusingly, both brake lights fine and none of the indicators come on with the brakes

It is indeed most confusing. As there does not seem to be an obvious fault which would cause those symptoms. What happens if you rewire 6 and 7? Do you get the front indicator always on when indicating right and brakes, and the back indicator light flashing correctly?

Success!

Tried moving the wires round on the rear light terminals.

No idea why that worked - nothing like a little mystery in the world!

Thanks for your help nwxh

cheers,

Glad you managed to solve the problem. If it works, that's the main thing :)

Just a thought... Could the bulb have been fitted the wrong way round? The offset pins on the cap should prevent this happening, but it's not unheard of for the caps to be wired incorrectly or the holder/cap to be damaged, allowing incorrect fitting.
