WMS261J

Post by morris_traveler_se »

Greetings..

We just (6 months ago) bought a morris traveler (estate? which is the correct term?).

As the dealership couldn't produce all the documents, I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about a 1971 1098cc morris traveler. For instanse the size of the petroltank (as this information is needed for the Swedish Road Administration to register the car).

I have the chassi and enginenumber if that helps.

The car was bought in Exeter and shipped to Sweden.

Greatful for any information
/Nicklas

Hi,

The correct term is a Morris Minor 1000 Traveller. It will have a 6.5 gallon fuel tank.

What other information do you need?

Thanks Cam. "doing metric calculus in my head and not succeding" ;)

I would like to know if there is anyway of finding out when the car was manufactured. I only have a registration date. The thing is that in 1971 the government passed the backseat seatbelt law, so all automobiles manufactured from 1971 must have seatbelts in the back. The morris doesn't and they stopped importing them to Sweden in -69 (I think). So, if the car is manufactured in -70 but registered in 71, we could get away with no seatbelts. Can I use the engine and chassinumber to find this info?

Thanks again

Yes, if you can let me/us have the chassis number, I can work out an approximate manufacture date (accurate to within a few weeks normally). Of course if you want the EXACT date of manufacture then you will have to order a heritage certificate costing around £28 I think. You can do this over the internet now easily enough. I have the details if you need to do this.

6.5 gallons = 29.55 litres.

Hi Nick,

Seatbelts are dead easy to fit though, so don't worry :)

That's the problem Nikki. There are seatbelts in the car, but the government won't allow this without testing them (Crash boom bang). That's why I needed to know what year it was manufactured. :)

Thx anyhow

Blimey! :O And I thought it was bad enough getting Seatbelts tested in the UK!?! !:(

But surely the country of saftey would realise that seatbelts fitted are better than no-seatbelts without testing them!

:(

Not that simple in the rear of a Traveller its a bit more involved than a Saloon.

Indeed, but this is also the land of bureaucracy. It's better to die without saftybelts, then to get seriously hurt with them *ironic*. Though we did get permission to drive without seatbelts in the backseat, the dude that wrote the letter said that if it was possible, the car should have at least a "two-point" seatbelt. I'm kinda baffled over this as they also say that seatbelts must be tested. Anyhow, I will remove anything that has to do with seatbelts, then drive my car through a summery Sweden. :)
