About a month ago I got a moggy not my first but my first split just wondering does anyone know the car its a 1956 one and the original plate is POY8

If you get a stick on window aerial you won't even need to drill holes in the bodywork, plus they work just fine. Link below:

She’s a 1098 got the original engine I don’t think it’s ever rebuilt I plan on fitting a hidden aerial in the wing so I don’t have to fit one that’s visible

Impossible!

As a Series II Split Screen, 1956, it was originally an 803 Engine.

The 1098 was the last engine used, from '62 to '71.

An interesting Age Related Plate though.

The original POY8 would have been Croydon, but the replacement VR plate is Manchester.
Many replacement age related plates are usually old Scottish ones as the English ones are few and far between.

Perhaps he means it's currently fitted with a 1098, but he happens to have the original engine as a spare to rebuild...

I know the car was in the club from 1993 to 2018 but not 93 is the earliest date and 2018 is the latest

How is any of that relevant to your earlier comment, about the engine?

Were you originally trying to say that :
A - The car is currently a 1098, and that
B - You've also got the original engine that you think is untouched, and
C - You're planning on hiding an aerial in the wing?

An aerial in the wing really won't work very well, it is surrounded by metal.... this is why they put them on the outside of the car in the first place ;)

Nowhere that would work well in all honesty.

If old mobile phones were able to pickup FM fairly well with just the earbuds for the aerial, maybe in the wing would still be okay.

My other car is now set up with a phone as the actual radio, it still goes through the radio/head unit though as far as I know it bypasses the real aerial and uses the door speakers by going through the aux lead inputs This is because it allowed the old radio to play unsupported media such as mp3 etc. while maintaining FM radio functionality.

I used to boost our old work places combined cassette/radio by hanging a computer mouse off its aerial which really improved the signal strength so it may not be as big a problem to get a decent signal strength (the hills made the signal iffy at times round the place).

Or, maybe a wire running from the radio, through the bulkhead, along the wiring path under the car and up back through the boot floor following the brake light wiring would work enough since it would be mostly outside that way, though subject to road splashup etc. of course.

I wonder if running wires up the inside of the doors draught excluders would work...

Before you go spending out on a 5 speed conversion, why not drive her around on the 1098 gearbox for a while first.
I fitted a type 9 ford box to one of mine a few years back, well in the end two, both supposedly rebuilt, both broke.
In the end I swapped back to the 1098 style 'ribbed' gearbox and never looked back.
Once you get used to the lack of synchromesh on first (when stationary drop down towards second then up into first to get round it), you may find it's not so bad to live with. And spend the money saved for the conversion on something better, like a front disc conversion.

I’ve driven another car one and it seems that the gearbox on my is geared to the point that it’s at full revs at 60 50 but shoots up hills with all the mileage I plan on doing in it I think a 5 speed would be better

The overall gearing of the car is controlled by the differential ratio. Before you spent a large sum on a 5 speed gearbox, check and see what differential you have fitted. Changing that to one more suitable would cost far less. I have never felt the need for a 5 speed gearbox in my Morris - and it would cost as much as the car did!

As the Minor evolved and gained larger engines the axle ratios were changed to suit. As your car started with an 803 and now has a 1098 has the old diff been replaced to suit?

That could explain why the car is at "full revs" around the 50/60mph mark, and why it "shoots up hills"........
