Rear brakes giving me grief.
Put on new brake pipes and all new fixings but have a fluid show from the banjo at the bleed nipple end..it seems to be coming up the side of the banjo, evident on both rear brakes. I have replaced it all again with the same result.
What am I doing wrong? All connections are tight.

Have you annealed the copper washers? They can work harden over time and won't compress.

I’ve fitted new washers….excuse my ignorance …how do I anneal them?

Heat the washers to red heat and either quench in cold water or let them cool naturally. My preference is to heat to red heat and quench in cold water.]The result - copper washer should now be annealed.

Depending on where you got your "copper" washers from they may not be solid copper. I have heard of washer that are actually copper plated steel. A quick check with a magnet would soon confirm they are solid copper. The washers are also a different size either side of the banjo.....

Heat up until the colour runs then plunge into vinegar, the acid will prevent oxidation.

If it was a fault in the washers would the fluid not then be showing at the bottom of the banjo and not at the top as it does now.?

What do you mean by 'top of the Banjo'?

If it's coming out here as arrowed, then the problem is clearly the bleed nipple.

The Front and Rear can be/are different threads depending on age/originality of car... Confused the hell out of me when working on my brakes the first time.
3/8 UNF or 3/8 BSF
3/8" BSF Thread Fits front on MM and SII and the Rear for all onwards
3/8" UNF is for Fronts from 56, and of course any earlier car that has the front brakes upgraded to latter ones at sometime.

Although I have seen some places that advertise the change over as being 54 not 56....

Bottom line, if it's leaking out of the top and you've replaced all the bits, I'm guessing the wrong nipples are fitted.

I fitted what came with the order from Charles Ware from there web and selected items from diagram showing rear brakes. I have successfully changed the front ones.
