Fuel Issues (I think)..

Hi-
On the way to the little car show I run, my Moggie died.
So--
It starts and idles fine, but when I press on the accelerator, it dies, but doesn't totally cut out, just back to idle.
1275 A Series, single HIF 44 SU carb.
I really haven't done anything apart from having it towed back home, and I'm not much of a mechanic, but I don't know where to start.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

It's a non standard set up for a minor so we might need more info.
As a hunch thr 1st thing I would check is the breather pipe from the timing cover to the carb assuming it's fitted. If this is broken or perished it will be allowing to much air into the carb and create the symptoms you describe

Hi,
I had similar symptoms on the 1098 I just replaced in Elsie May, if the hose mentioned above is in good order what's the compression like?
Best wishes,
Mike.

I had something similar last week, it was the small bore pipe to the vacuum advance that had pulled out of the rubber fitting on the carb.

At this point, it seems like a simple issue, a picture or two of the engine bay may really help.
