Okay,

So after the entertaining time with the 'log' manifold yesterday, today I slapped it back together the way I've been running (standard carb/manifold/exhaust, engine very breathless )...

...but before I did, I stuck the Ital manifold/carb/airfilter back together to check and....

....it doesn't fit.





Um, can anyone who's done this tell me where I'm going wrong?

Suggestions on a postcard to the usual address?

If that is a HIF38 carb and the alloy trumpet that fits it to the airbox is round at the end and goes through a right angle bend, there is a good chance you can get the 1098 airfilter box to fit. You will have to offer the trumpet up to the 1098 airbox as there are several versions but if it's the one I think then it should be a bit oversized. all you need to do is get a small file and take out the outside edge of the end lip.
I can try to send you a photo of the one that went on my 948 if you think it might help.

Have you actually got the right-angle bend bit (elbow) that goes between the carb & air filter? I've got an MG Metro filter going spare, but it's also awkard to fit (too close to the bulkhead IIRC) which is why I got a 1.0 Metro setup for mine. Er, that's not much help to you is it? I do remember that the MG and 1.0 elbows were different sizes though and my 1.0 elbow wouldn't fit the MG carb, but I'm happy enough with the HIF38 on my 1098cc engine.

I had a K&N filter on mine. The performance increase was not noticable but the terrible din was, so i put it back in the shed.

I have got one K&N filter in the shed. I didn't know a wee HS2 could make so much noise. It did rev more freely

Kate it is possible to get the orignal filter to fit but you need to fit the original filter mounting to the new carb by drilling a couple of holes so it fits I am sure I have some photo`s somewhere if you want to see what it looks like.
