I have the bandage type wrap on my LCB manifold. It looks smart and I think helps with the under-bonnet heat. I had vapourisation in the fuel line in the summer before. I also put extreme heat clearcoat on it (the manifold) first, as I read that moisture trapped in the bandage could work away at the metal.

Three or four years on now and it looks as good as new.

Your particular wrap may have unique instructions but...

- Wear gloves or prepare to itch for days
- Dampen the wrap with bucket of water
- Start at one end and wrap tightly with an overlap of about a third of the width of the tape
- Secure ends with metal cable ties or the more expensive specialist fastenings
- Run car briefly to heat and dry

Exhaust wrap is available from dozens of suppliers including good old ebay and amazon, but do remember cheap exhaust wrap is cheap for a reason,

Cheap wrap has very limited thermal properties and disintegrates in the first couple of years, so be careful where you spend your money, as for how to fix it, you can use locking wire or cable ties, not the plastic ones.... but most of the thermal wrap suppliers will also supply stainless steel cable ties, we use a lot of it on race cars and on this occasion i would say you do get what you pay for.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the point of it?
I get it for performance vehicles, keeping the exhaust gasses hotter for longer, insulating other components from the excess heat etc, but is there a purpose to it on a typical Minor? :-?

Edited - Just because I hate reading my posts back and finding spelling mistakes as I didn't read it properly before I submitted it :(

Given metal heat shields for the fuel lines have also been available for donkeys years, one gathers there is at least a market for those having issues or wanting to prevent issues with under-bonnet temperatures causing fuel vaporisation.

Honestly I've only experienced it once in France when it was bloody hot.

I suppose it could also reduce the temperature of the air going into the carb but I'd doubt it would be measurable on a humble minor.

Also it looks cool to some. :)
