About to fit new core plugs to our 1098, the block is a bit pitted so I think they will need some sort of sealant, years ago I used red hermatite but thats long discontinued, I have some wellseal, not sure if that will work, any thoughts?

I used Wellseal, rightly or wrongly !

Hermatite Red was discontinued, but you can still get Hylomar Red, now branded as 'Hylomar HYLOTYTE RED'.

As I had wellseal and it seemed to have worked for Les I used that, on close inspection the rear one which is the only one I have done so far was not too badly pitted either.

Kevin, the instructions say leave for a few minutes before assembly, something I didn’t realise at the time. I’ve yet to see if my plugs have sealed !

I did let it set, with the list of toxicity warnings it's got to be good stuff!

I'm sure it will be fine I used it on my Elan and it worked well, if all else fails k-seal will see to it!

Although you should allow the Wellseal resin to evaporate before assembly, I very much doubt it will make a difference to the sealing properties. The reason they say to leave it for a few minutes is so that it becomes more tacky and is less likely to run, which is an important consideration on vertical assemblies.
