Lads..

Bacj again this time with Choke problems.

Before yesterday the Choke used to pull out with a bit of give and work effectively. Yesterday I pulled it out it and its gone all loose and not working since,
How does one tighten it up again ?? is it something I could fix myself.
Took me 20 minutes to start this morning :x :x

Any help appreciated !!

When you pull out the knob (sorry, terrible terminology!) does the jet underneath the carburettor move downwards? Or has the jet moved and stuck in the down position?

Ah

I have checked in the bonnet to dark this morning to do so !!
The cable is snapped just down where it joins the mechanical thing in the engine.

How many cables should be joined to this as there is another cable thats there !! orinating from the starter..goes into something and its end bit is near the choke but not connected to it !!

Hope this makes sense !!

Both choke and accelerator cables connect to the carburretor in the same vicinity.
The choke cable should operate the jet under the carb i.e. pull it down to enrich the fuel/air mixture.
The other operates a butterfly in the carb. this mechanism is connected to a spring secured to the exhaust clamp.

If the car drives ok when started and warmed up it would appear to be the choke cable that has broken.

On older Minor 1000's (pre 1962?) starting is achieved using a cable operated switch, but this cable is hidden behind the facia/dash.

Lo, you need a new choke cable, it is fitted at the carburettor
end through a hole in a pin and is clamped by a small nut.
I suggest you get one quickly....it is going to become very
COLD by this weekend and you will have trouble starting in the
cold without a choke

Thanks Lads

LOL.. I fixed it myself, Willie .. Im getting there slowly.

I must say theres not much giver on her though, Can only pull choke Knob out onw third of way,But it started like a rocket this morning.
Stupid question !! Is this a standard choke cable or specific to car make and model.

Most choke cables are specific to one particular model.
Do not like the sound of your new one if you cannot pull
it out as far as the previous one. what matters is that in the
'rest' position there is a small amount of free play before
the cable operates the choke(about 1/16"). If you do not
have this free play it means that you are not letting the
choke right off and will be running too rich, causing a
reluctance to tick over when warmed up, and poor mpg.
