A recent garage clear out to facilitate a new roof being put on has prompted me to clean some of the gunk off an old eBay impulse purchase, this interesting carb on an interesting manifold.

Well, I find it interesting! I presume it's from a later car like a Marina, Ital, Maestro, Montego or some such and the manifold arrangement is intended to improve torque.

The other attachments I'm not sure about, presumably some kind of early automatic choke via vacuum valve, and something else?
The plan is to restore to fit on one of my cars or to pass it on to somebody else to enjoy.

I agree. With the manifold it certainly looks like a Maestro carb. Probably the HIF44E because I don't think they made a HIF38E, unless anyone knows different. The 'E' indicating 'Electronic' since it's fitted with automatic stepper motor mixture control (choke) and a fuel cut-off solenoid valve. These were controlled by the engine ECU. The aluminium tab attached to the suction chamber should have a FXZ number, that will identify the original application. My mate used to have a 1989 Maestro 1.3 but that was fitted with a manual choke SU.

Funnily enough an older chap down the road has just brought out an old Maestro and drives it nearby to see the wildlife on the river with his wife. Perhaps once restored I should see if he needs it!

HIF44 is likely a little big for my tuned 1098/1148, currently has twin HS2s with the '3' needle.
