Has anyone fitted core plugs from ESM ? They are different from the original type with side walls. I expect they seal ok but just wondering, whether to search for the originals.

The core plugs with side walls are fitted to the later engines especially the 1275cc.

The core plugs without side walls are fitted to the early engines i.e. 803/948/1098cc engines.

You must use the correct core plug for the type of core plug hole in the block. You should not use the wrong type.
The holes in the block for the core plugs with side walls do not have a backstop. Care must be taken when removing/fitting core plugs to holes without backstops in that they can be driven right through into the block core and may be very difficult to retrieve.

Thanks for your help on this Phil, I didn’t know those facts. I’m getting together some bits for an Ital block.

On that particular type, a little Wellseal will ensure a leak-free fit.

I would recommend using brass core plugs.
