New clutch ...vibe/noise

Post by Chill59 »

I've just fitted a new clutch and release bearing (1098)
When operating it now there is a noise and vibration through the pedal when actuating the clutch.
It's very slight at tickover but greater at slightly higher revs.
Could it be that the release bearing needs bedding in a bit?
Thanks Chris

I should have said that the gearbox tunnel cover isn't in place. So, maybe the noise of the carbon release 'bearing' engaging could perhaps be normal? Usually masked by the gearbox cover, carpets etc.?

But were that the case, it wouldn't explain the 'vibration' you report via the clutch pedal - assuming this only appeared after fitting the new clutch?

Sorted it!!!
I'd adjusted the free movement at the pedal to what the manual said (35-38mm).
A mechanic mate said to make it less so I adjusted it to about 20mm and it works fine with no noise.
Any more than 20mm and I can't engage gears.
