My 1969 Minor has just developed a tinny rattling sound when I accelerate, thoroughly checked over and found it was coming from the silencer box... you can hear the rattle inside....loose baffles? ...Any suggestions on diy cure ?
Kind regards.

I seem to remember the official workshop manual describes where to insert screws into the silencer case to secure the baffles.
This I suppose could work with a 'factory' system but are after market systems made in the same way though?
When I had a rattling box years ago I must admit to deforming it with a large G clamp enough to nip the baffles, it worked!

It might depend on the age/condition of the silencer. One obvious diy cure would be to buy a new one and fit it yourself.

Close, it proposed holes and welding. Section T1, the final page of the manual.
However, the Ruddy Site is not allowing any images AGAIN!
Edit: UPDATE 3 hours later it's still duff!

Whether that will apply to a modern replacement is of course a different question, but I'd say that it's likely that the spot welds from manufacture can probably be seen, so it might still apply, with a little adaption.

Thank you for all the replies.
I’ve done the suggestion of applying a large G clamp to deform the silencer outer box a little...... good result ! .... no more baffle rattling!
Kind regards.
