heater valve

Hi could someone please advise if this is a heater valve .When I looked it was closed clockwise fully. Unsure what it does and if it need to be open anticlockwise at all .Please help

It’s a manually operated heater valve, open it for water to circulate around the heater. It looks like it’s been out of use for a while, which could mean trouble.

That's the manual heater valve fitted to early cars. Basically a tap to turn the hot water on or off.

thanks very much.i have the cool air blowing type moggy heater so will leave open as i have flushed system.will probably need to refurb heater unit and check pipes.more jobs

It's worth checking that the tap isn't blocked, as well as checking the hoses and flushing the matrix. I suspect you've got the earlier round heater fitted if that tap's the right type for the car, and even they work pretty well when they're as they should be

Once you have checked the hoses, and that the valve is clear and flushed the matrix out, leave the valve open. That allows better cooling of the block at the back all year round....

When I flushed and replaced my previous moggie I found there was alot of sludge blocking my tap

Yes I guess I will have to do a pipes off flush and matrix clean out.job 96

Great news I have heat from the heater after opening the valve as advised.not great on screen but expected that but actual warmth in to the car.could not be happier.thanks morriseers
