Not another engine swap question!

Evening all.

I hope everyone is busy/distracted enough to get by.

I know what you're thinking, another question about "upping" the power and swapping engines to add to the pile.

Although I think this is slightly different.

I am, as you may have guessed, thinking (I wont say planning as we all know how this goes) about a major change to one of my projects.

I have a '68 2 door, which is rotten on the bottom half, I'd say instable at best.

As the shell is 'almost' too far gone I thought I'd have a play and think about doing something fun.

What the idea is, on paper atleast, is to essentially take the body off the crumbling floors, chassis legs, sills etc and mount it onto something else.

I have seen the traveller and van that have been done to an MX-5 'skateboard', and someone who heavily modified the rear end on one to fit onto a TF body.

My want is to put it onto something period, but I'm stuck for ideas.

Beetle? No because... it's a beetle.

Spitfire? Perhaps getting closer...

I must say I've not seen this.

The series 1 I believe had the same wheelbase as the minor?

I know very little about LR so I may well be mistaken.

Reliant ss1 has a similar wheelbase, 1.8T could be quite entertaining.

That would actually work rather well I think. The width is close enough to not have too big of a flare on the arches.

Although not that easy to come by...

It wouldn't be the strangest build I've ever seen!

See that would be far too easy! (I hadn't thought about something that close to home)

Although I imagine they're not easy to come by

On the contrary, van chassises are made from scratch and sold by ESM

I've seen a picture of the SS1 chassis. It's not really suitable for rebodying in any way shape or form. It's sort of a cross between a chassis and a spaceframe (if that makes sense) and would require major modification to fit within the confines of a Minor body. Any chassis modifications put you into BIVA territory, which outweighs the advantage of using the chassis of an existing car. If you're going for a BIVA build you might as well make a chassis that's designed to fit in the first place.
On another note, perhaps there's a kitcar chassis that might be suitable?

Yeah I see what you mean now, I assumed it to be more like the Scimitar chassis.

I helped my step-father strip down a Spartan kit car recently and the (almost) self contained chassis snd suspension underneath got me thinking about it.

It's based on a Vitesse chassis, (may be Herald, I can't quite remember now) it's just a touch too long
