Help! Replacing Morris 1000 saloon linkage, have removed old but questioning the correct order of the rod nuts? Does the domed adjustment nut go tail side (spring side) of the rubber housing or front? Also to adjust to give play do you tighten or loosen? Apologies for basic advice, am new to this and trying to do all I can.

Firstly there is no 2nd lock nut. The nut on its own (to the rear of the release lever) needs to be removed or screwed right to the end of the threads tightened and left.
The domed nut fits on the engine/forward side of the release lever as per your picture.
The release lever has to be pulled backwards to disengage the clutch.
Tightening the nut reduces the release lever/thrust pad clearance. Slackening the domed nut increases the release lever/thrust pad clearance.

Thanks for response, I wondered why the kit came with two locking nuts? I was thrown by image diagram attached which shows but on each side. So once connected slackening nut should give play to pedal?

Having finished the linkage fitting I’ve tightened the lock nut to reduce play in the pedal and now have about inch and half. My worry is spring looks over stressed and pressing pedal only stretches more? Does the image look ok?

The linkage in the illustration is different to that fitted to your car.
The nuts are fitted correctly but you only need the one lock nut. Why you had two nuts supplied I do not know.
The spring is ok as is.

Apologies to drag this topic out. On the opposite side to the release lever there is a similar size opening , I assume for LHD, however this is open? Is there a cap or grommet that needs to be there to seal?

Hi, is your car a 948 or 1098? Free play is 3/4" for the 948 (and also, I believe, for the 803) and 13/8 - 11/2" for the 1098 version.

The L/H drive clutch release lever aperture should be blocked by a blanking grommet as per the link below:-

Morris is a 1098, so I’ll adjust accordingly. Thanks also for grommet link. Ordered and on its way.
Thanks to all for help.
