Trafficators

Hi all, The previous owner fitted flashing indicators to "Aunty Mable" at some stage, I would like to get the trafficators working again,Does anyone know if its possible to keep the indicators and wire in the trafficators on a seperate circuit.
If they were on the same circuit could this cause a short or maybe keep the arms lifting and closing, or not working at all???

you will need 2 indicator switches and separted wiring.

best thing to do would be to remove the flashing relay and then wire the trafficators into the circuit.
this means that the indicators on the wings would light up but not flash.

but i dont think the mot mans going to like it, a 61 minor must have flashing indicators.
its ok on split screens

you could 'wire in" a flasher relay just before each wing indicator

'tis possible, but I would imagine requires (at least) one more relay.

Without knowing the wiring exactly, I can't instantly tell you how to do it, but I expect someone else will be along shortly - otherwise chuck me a wiring diagram and I'll work it out :-)

4 relays, 1 before each indicator on the wings

why do you need a wiring diagram??

its not that difficult to imagine

Because I'm not *entirely* certain how his indicators are wired up, and whether it's possible to vamp a switched supply from somewhere convenient so that you'd just need to stick in (2?) relays, one for each trafficator. I'd imagine that's possible, but I might be having a moment (since everything I do to do with electronics takes me about a week to work out these days).

Thus enabling the trafficators to work at the same time as the indicators.... I think. Blurgh.

this is why I need wiring diagrams, so I can see if I'm being staggeringly stupid.

the traficators look after themself's with a voltage. they dont need the flasher units or any form of relay
the flashers go on the wings to make the wing indicators flash for the mot.
youve raised a good point only 2 flasher units one for each side.

realy this car should not have trafficators if marks talking about his 61 2 door.
the holes may be there but they were never fitted

I don't mean flasher relays, I just mean ordinary chunky 12V moderate amps relays. I'm not sure how much power the trafficators need to work, and I'm always wary of sticking lots of load on switches.

Is it possible to wire the indicators normally, and have an extra feed coming from the switch (with a suitable relay, as required) to operate the traficators without the flashers having a bearing on it?

Or am I talking rubbish??

Aye, that's the kind of thought I was thinking Gareth.

Hi all
Flashing indicators came on Minors in Aug 61 so if prior to this - ok for MOT not to have them

Hi again, I spoke to my mechanic and he said the wires operating the trafficators have been taken off them completely and fitted to the flashing indicators. So at the moment the trafficators have no power supply at all.
Thanks for replying everyone,
