Is anyone able to tell me the cost as new for a 1967 two door smoke grey 1098 Morris Minor saloon on a typical forecourt back in 1967....
Why you ask.
Apparently knowing this figure is vital if you want your Limited Company to become the owner of a classic company car.
Hope someone can help.

Thank you for the estimate of circa £700. As HMRC might want a bit of harder proof - any ideas as to where a period price list or adverts of the time might be sourced?
Thank you

The 1964 show guide from Motor magazine quotes a Minor saloon price of £451, rising to £547 with purchase tax added. I haven’t got a copy for 1967 but there are old copies on eBay.

Of course figures from the 60s would presumably still be in £'s, Shillings and Pence and would HMRC need it converted to its' modern worth I wonder?

Pre decimalisation in '71, a lot of large ticket items were sold in guineas, from Land and Art to furniture and household appliances. I can remember Beds, Sofas, Radiograms etc being advertised in guineas, although at that time many families rented their TV.
Probably not Minors, but I bet some of the high end motors like Rollers, Bentleys and Jags might have been.

Phillips Car Radio in guineas!
That's £21 for a car radio, when average weekly earnings (converted to decimal) were £15.10 for a man and £7.60 for a woman.

Frank Marker in Private Eye on Talking Pictures right now charges 6 guineas a day for his detective work in 1971.

If the OP is interested, there are a number of original Morris price lists for sale on eBay at the moment, including one from early '68. These should give the retail sale price that he requires for his car and they wouldn't break the bank at £6 each.
