Has anyone bought a bulldog wheel clamp as illustrated, I’m thinking of buying one but don’t know how well it would fit an an older car, such as a Minor.

I use a disklok for security.
I dont know if there is an advantage over one of these.
Both would be better, but its where to stop isnt it ?
Anything that makes the little toe rags shove off.
I have been meaning to get a good old fashioned battery terminal lock as well.

I presume it breaks the connection between a terminal and the cable and is locked in that position? I have one fitted but it doesn’t lock as such.
Regarding security I’ve got a pedal lock but the wheel clamp would hinder the towing away of the vehicle, something
that happened to me many years ago.

I have a Bulldog wheel clamp for the caravan which has 175 x 13 tyres fitted.
The only downside found so far is that it does not suit narrow wheels/tyres as I was unable to close up the width of the clamp legs to suit the 145 x 10 Mini wheels/tyres fitted to my trailer.

Yes Phil, exactly my worry, although the spec does say ok for 155 width plus, although I suspect there would be quite a bit of excess play. I’m thinking I might be able to fit wooden blocks to the inside to make the U bends narrower. Halfords sell them, wonder if they might.have one unpacked to try.

I have just dug out the Bulldog wheel clamp.

The minimum width that can be obtained is 160mm in standard form. The adjustment holes are 20mm apart.

The main body of the wheel clamp and hook arms can each be shortened by up to 50mm which will allow the arms to grip narrower tyres.
You would have to drill and tap the hook arms to suit.

I would advise that shortening should be be done one adjuster hole at a time to get the right grip on the wheel.

I brought a MAYPOLE MP9065 Universal Caravan / Trailer Wheel Clamp 13-17", quite readily available particularly on fleabay. The reason I got it was that it has a place with 2 settings, to allow it to fit narrower tyres.
It still has about an inch of a gap between the plate and the hub cap but my intention is to take that up with a sheet of rubberised padding on the underside of the plate to protect the hubcap and some little blocks on the hooks behind the wheel.
I've not actually used it in anger anywhere yet, I've only had is about 18 months and well of course, this year has been a write off.
I only got it as an additional visual deterrent if leaving Basil somewhere for quite a while.

I've only ever known them as 'hidden in plain sight' isolators, not as Locks.

I guess there’s only so much that you can do to safeguard these cars, and it could soon become obsessive to the point where the joy of ownership becomes compromised.

Yes, you’re so right, it does spoil ownership somewhat but as we live in a world where thieving toe rags prowl, you need to be prepared.Just to emphasise my obsession, here’s a picture of my pedal lock !

You could say why bother to lock the doors, the thing is to make an effort and do something.

It is very easy to shorten the female tube into which the hook arm fits. The solid male hook arm will need to be shortened to suit and a new hole drilled and tapped.

I am in total agreement with you in that you have to something or you might as well leave the keys in the ignition and hang a large sign on the windscreen saying 'Help yourself'.

As an aside this thread made me look in the front locker of the caravan the bottom of which I found to be saturated with rain water ingress. I have now cleaned and refitted the door seal so should now be all ok.

Thanks for the comprehensive pictures Phil, your clamp differs from the ones that I’ve seen, in so much as the width is adjustable by means of telescopic tubing, whereas its a fixed width on others, unfortunately.
Ps: Hope the new gasket does the trick.
