My dad has a 1961 morris minor and wants to be able to flash the headlight's. What's the easiest way round this, i went to a garage today and they said to run a live feed to the high beam switch on the floor. Any idea's?
cheers.

Hi marty,
I think the solution depends on how original your dad wants the car to be.
Obviously, if he wants to flash the lights I'm guessing he won't mind doing one of those indicator with flash conversions that some of the bigger moggy spares places sell. Expect though to pay a fair whack for one. they simply replace the standard minor indicator with a flash facility indicator stalk.
Alternatively, as you have been told, you could wire something in on the floor. The thing here though, is that you'd need to play around with the wiring of the minor.
I don't have a wiring schematic for the minor (although they are pretty simple) but I'd reckon that it may be possible to take a switched live from the feed side of the headlight switch on the dash and feed it to the dipping circuit on the floor. However...
The minor dipped switch is (if memory serves correctly) a single-pole, double-throw switch, meaning that it's always on. If you wanted to wire a flasher in you'd really need a push-to-make, single throw switch.
I'm possibly way out though. It's a long time since I did any wiring work in my Mog (And last time I did it I forgot that although Hebe is a negative earth minor these days her internal wiring is still positive earth - meaning that all the switches are actually switching the earth sides of the circuits....
For what it's worth (and this is probably how I'd do it)... I'd just wire up a push-to-make circuit on the dash or steering column which flashed the lights without touching the original floor switch.

Hello Kate,
may I correct you, the change to negative earth does not mean that you are switching the earth side you are not, some circuits are switched on the earth side, such as the horn but changing polarity does not change the switching at all. It is just that the current flow is reversed. Most circuits are switched on the live side realtive to earth.

Ah yes... That would make sense. See, I never was good at electronics in cars....may I correct you, the change to negative earth does not mean that you are switching the earth side you are not, some circuits are switched on the earth side, such as the horn but changing polarity does not change the switching at all.
