Flasher unit not powering bulb?

Hello hello!
So I'm installing indicators into my trafficator'd Series 2. Nearly there now, so let me explain the setup.
Fuse sends power to trafficator switch under dash. I then have the L and R terminals sending two wires each. One to the trafficator as normal, then one to my setup.
That wire goes into the flasher unit's left terminal. The right terminal has a wire leading to the indicator bulb.
When activating the switch, the indicator bulb lights up, great! So I attach a wire from the flasher unit's middle terminal to ground. Now when I activate the switch, the flasher unit clicks like an indicator should, but the bulb doesn't come on at all.
What's likely the problem here?
Edit: Flasher unit are both 12v 21WX2 + 5W, Max 47W.
Indicators are just cheap motorcycle indicators with a black and grey wire. Throughout all of this, only one of these wires is used and the other one, grounded or not, changes nothing
