Yep, I can relate to this. Back in 2000, having acquired a very nice early Vauxhall chevette, I rolled it into the workshop to change the points and set the timing. Within hours, the engine was out of it (much easier to set to the points that way...) and before I knew it, it was a bare shell and being sand blasted ready for a respray. Fast forward twenty years, it's still in the corner of the workshop, still in grey primer, still awaiting top coats.
If had known setting the points would have taken this long, I'd just have phoned accuspark and fitted an electronic ignition instead !!!!
