Why don’t we scrap this idea of not being able to respond to posts in ‘cars for sale’ ?

For the historical reasons as explained in previous threads about this. I'm sitting firmly on the fence about this, as I can see both sides of the argument; so I neither agree nor disagree with the reasoning, but the restriction was introduced for what were deemed good reasons and after representations received. Feel free to advance arguments as to why you feel it should be scrapped, and perhaps open a vote so that your position could be considered by Mike and the Committee in an informed manner.

Thanks for your response. I don’t want to make a big issue over this, I’m just feeling that seller and potential buyers would, in most cases gain over being able to discuss further details. I know there have been some negative stuff that caused the reaction but in general upsetting posts were not that frequent. We’re in danger of becoming ‘snowflakes’ I believe the expression is ! Don’t forget sellers aren’t above being rude, with remarks like ‘ No time wasters’ etc, what a cheek. However back to the issue, there’s always the dreaded ‘thread locked’ if someone really gets out of hand ! :D

Isn't it possible to 'PM' a seller?

It is possible to PM the seller, but many are not members and only want to advertise the Minor. Many don't answer PMs, as possibly they don't even know a PM exists!

A great many people can't work out how to access a PM, or anything else on the User Control Panel. They are also, as Les mentions, somewhat lacking in 'manners and etiquette' for want of a better phrase.

Take this classic example.
DaveH posted a question about notifications, I replied and sent him a PM.
He has not logged into the Forums since that date and the PM is still sat in my Outbox waiting for him.

I would have thought you MUST be a member, for the privilege of being permitted to sell your car on our website?

That’s luckily not the case, if it were, then collectively we would all miss an opportunity to buy a Minor that a member of the general public decided to sell.
