Hi Guys,

Sorry to labour this subject. I have just managed to get 2 spacers for the Marina Disc brake conversion from ESM.

The bearings on my Minor, with the Marina disc brake conversion just now are okay. Just trying to get my head round the setup for future reference for if, and when, I have to change the bearings.

I have attached a few pictures. The spacers I have are stepped. I assume the high step is to increase the diameter of the stub for the oil seal. The lower step is to increase the diameter of the stub axle shaft for the rear bearing. This is where I am getting confused. The bearing I have will not pass over the step. It does fit onto the shaft okay with the spacer removed.

Also, the spacer high step does not but up against the rear flange of the stub axle.

I know I am missing something,and getting it all wrong, some guidance,and advice would be greatly received.

Is the larger bearing a minor one or a marina one?

Don't worry about the spacer not quite going to the back of the stub axle, you want a small clearance there so the bearing butts up to a solid stop

It is a Marina one, I think. That is what I purchased.

What one should I be using on the Marina Disc conversion?

The inner bearing is Timken L44649 99401. L44610 1194.

If I remember correctly it is the same as a classic Mini rear hub and is used in many small trailer hubs.

The outer bearing for information is SKF 30203J2

The spacer needs to be secured in place. Use Loctit bearing loc

Just checked, its a SKF 30205/Q. Perhaps that is the Morris Minor one!

I will check what the marina one should be.

That saves me a troll on the net. Is the bearing quite a tight fit on the spacer?

It may just be me, but are you sure that the bearings are the right way round? It looks like you will pop out the centre when they are fitted.

I have just tried a NOS Timken bearing on a NOS spacer and it is a light interference fit on the spacer. Tightening the hub nut should push the bearing onto the spacer.
When fitted there should be 3mm play at the wheel rim. The bearings are not pre-loaded as are the Minor bearings.
The bearings in the photo above are orientated the wrong way round. The tapers should be facing outwards when fitted in the hub i.e. with the outer race fitted you should be able to remove the inner race/bearings assy.

I had placed them in a row to let you see what I was trying to do. My bench is not exactly flat and I laid them out so they would not fall apart when taking the picture.

I will pay attention when I actually do the job. Thanks for all your help, all clear now. I will order the correct bearings from bearing King. Surprised how cheap they are.

I phoned up ESM and they actually gave me the spacers for free. Nice people.
