(Hope this is in the right area for posting this)

We have today successfully removed the rear screen and made good the bodywork around the opening. We have tried in vain to refit the screen with a nice new rubber but so far it has eluded us. We've only managed to get covered in sealant and not fit the screen. We have had to walk away from it with very tired arms and disgruntled heads. Didn't think it would be easy but thought we had a chance.

First we tried to fit rubber to screen and had some sort of success but failed. Then we tried with rubber on car and failed again. Each time trying to fit screen from inside and trying to fit the lower half of the screen first. The problem was that the lower corners were jammed close to the body and the lower part was an inch away - we just couldn't get the knack...

Any advice thankfully received - We really don't want to give up and this was meant to be practice for the front screen !

Oh and btw this is a 1970 saloon ...

used the old rubber ( was more pliable ),fit the glass in the rubber, fit from the inside , patience , warm the rubber in a bucket of hot water/ hairdryer ?..

So Rubber on glass - glass up to opening from, inside the car and patience and luck.

Rear screen fitted - This is what worked for us

Rubber seal fitted to glass
Paracord fitted round slot on outside - tails to the lower edge
Plenty of 3 in one (with PTFE) sprayed around edge of seal that goes against bodywork

Two people inside holding glass - one each side
Glass pushed up against car and moved upwards to get top lip into the right place and start fitting there - pulling seal over edge and onto the right side of the bodywork. People on inside gently pushing upwards.
Work cord out equally both sides across top and down sides - add more 3 in 1 to make it easier and reduce possibility of tearing.
Lower bottom corners are tricky. Don't press glass too much against car so that seal can come out and over.
Run along bottom is easy - last couple of inches more pf a pain but just be patient. Then go round easing it all into final place.

Clean up car body
Have coffee/tea and Chocolate bar of your own choice.
