Hello,
Need assistance, guidence,......and bang on head!!
How do I attach this plate that has come away when I was wiping down the area.
I'm confused because it looks like a pop rivet but it can't be because it does not travel through the rocker cover( thank goodness)
Can I use high temperature glue?.

The detail plates are usually attached to the rocker cover by special rivets.

You can use pop rivets if you want and they are available from MOSS as well if you cannot procure locally.

I've alot if tools, mainly plastering, plumbing. Obviously these ain't going to help.
I'll try to Google the name of the tool I need.
Was hoping I could glue it with hight temp.

Mine's attached with terry clips.

Are you getting mixed up with the plate attached to the heater return pipe which traverses across the top of the manifold(s).

On this occasion I'm not confused! Lol

Two short self tapping screws will do the job.
Just as easy to keep them shiny if you so wish, plus easier to remove, should you need to (for example) repaint the rocker cover in the future or replace said plates if the become damaged / badly worn.

I have some of them self tapping screws, so I'll do that.
The hole remains filled so I may need to remove the rocker cover to prevent the bit in the hole dropping into the engine area.

Agreed, always remove the rocker cover before drilling it, you know where those metal filings will end up otherwise............

Slightly irrelevant, as I can see this is for an earlier car, but for the benefit of others the rocker cover plates for 1098 engines were glued, not riveted. According to Ray Newell's bible!

Just to prove I do search before asking silly questions. I'm chipping away at small jobs while it's cold outside and decided to clean up my rocker cover. During so I noticed that what appears to be a sticky patent label also may have had rivets through it at some point. Or maybe it was applied and riveted on to wet paint?

What is the general consensus on how to block up the holes? Weld or rivet, if I don't like the idea of using screws? ESM sell covers for less than 40 quid but they don't look the same.

Use short blind/sealed rivets to block the hole.

Blind/sealed rivets do not have the expanding and collapsing ball outside or below the rivet body.

As the rivets in your link above have the expanding and collapsing ball outside the rivet body the rivet make leak oil.

Phil has covered it, but you have to be careful of terminology.
A 'Blind Rivet' is one where you don't need to the the other side with some type of tool such as a reaction block.
The problem with the blind/pop rivet is that after the mandrel has snapped off when it's competed it's compression, it can seem very secure, but then fall out months or years later.
Only ever use the ones where the end is retained inside, the Closed End type, which is what Phil means.
I've seen damage on aircraft where the wrong type of rivet was used for repairs and the tails vibrated loose, bouncing around inside the enclosed space.

Just to add to this, yes special rivets but later cars do not have these plates riveted on. They are stickers on later cars like mine.

Thank you chaps, much appreciated. My neighbour has confirmed that he has a rivet gun so I'll buy some sealed, blind, closed end, short rivets as soon as I find them on eBay. Love this forum!
